ANQING MEDICAL COLLEGE (AMC) is located in Dalongshan, a picturesque town in the outskirts of Anqing and adjacent to the beautiful Longshan National Park. Established in 1943 amid the Anti-Japanese War, Anqing Medical College, formerly Lihuang, Anhui Provincial Senior Vocational School for Nurses and Midwives and then Anqing Health Vocational School is Anhui’s first school dedicated to public medical education and best known as the cradle of pharmacists in Anhui. In March 2007, AMC received its current status as a tertiary institution from the Ministry of Education and the provincial government of Anhui. It passed the Ministry’s teaching quality assessment with good scores in 2012 and since 2005; AMC has been regularly awarded the title of “National Civilized Unit”.

Anqing Medical College covers an area of 420,000 square meters, with a floor area of 140,000 square meters. The total value of equipment and instruments exceeds 30 million yuan. AMC consists of four departments (clinical medicine, pharmacy, nursing and general education), one information center and nine administrative sections. It provides thirteen majors (nursing, midwifery, clinical medicine, rehabilitation, etc.) to over 8,000 students, who benefit from an internship opportunity to work with AMC’s affiliated hospital, two partner hospitals, as well as many Grade3 and Grade2 hospitals across the country.
AMC employs 616 members of staff, among whom 242 are full-time academics (62 professors and associate professors, 64 doctoral and master degree holders). In the past few decades, eleven AMC employees have been awarded provincial honorary titles such as “Specialty leading teachers”, “Excellent teachers” and “Excellent members of staff”. Two teachers are awardees of “Municipal government special allowance”. In addition, senior doctors and external professors are regularly invited to teach in AMC.
AMC aspires to become one of the leading medical colleges in its area, focusing on teaching quality and recognized for its excellence in research. It has won a number of distinguished honors and prizes over the recent years. These notable achievements include: two practice bases and two programs orienting the promotion of professional ability, all funded by the central government budget, one national key program under the eleventh “Five-year Plan”, three provincial featured programs, three provincial model practice centers, one provincial teaching team, three projects supervised and funded under “Anhui higher education growth plan”, two provincial resource sharing disciplines, one provincial practice base in collaboration with enterprises, one provincial pilot program for comprehensive reform, one provincial project for the promotion of traditional Chinese medicine supported by special funds and a municipal award for achievements in science and technology. In addition, AMC academics have undertaken various award-winning projects for research and teaching at the provincial level or above. 27 scholars have been invited as chief editors for national or provincial standard textbook, 30 having acted as associate editors. In total, AMC has trained and educated over 40,000 medical professionals with high-level practical ability.
Anqing Medical College holds such positions as a member unit of Supporting Education in China’s Western Region Program sponsored by the Ministry of Education, the vice-president unit of Chinese Traditional Medicine Federation, the vice-president unit of China Public Health Vocational Education and Rehab Technology Society, a standing member unit of China Higher Public Health Vocational Education Association. The college is also the further education base for pharmacists in Anhui and the practice base in partnership with Anqing Red Cross Society.
The past seven decades have witnessed AMC’s significant progress in nurturing competent and caring medical professionals. AMC has developed distinct features for its medical programs as well as the cultivation of students’ practical ability.
